We Want to Win Now…
Sitting in the living room with our boys watching Michigan v Ohio State. At the same time I’m monitoring facebook , twitter, and blogs that are talking about the game. People are calling for coach Rich Rodriguez’s resignation or termination immediately…
No one can see the progress, no one can see the positive changes, and no one can see the possibilities for the future. We want to win and we want to win now!
I see this attitude all the time in nearly every walk of life…
We were so pissed at the republicans in 2008 that we voted them out in record numbers. Then just two years later we voted a bunch of the newly elected out and voted in the people we had just sent home. We are faced with global problems that will require a resetting of operations/standards and a new kind of leadership. But, we want to win and we want to win now!
The church is faced with new issues brought on by post-modern thought, global economic issues, and the proliferation of social media (thus instant social comparison). Young pastors are inheriting churches in the throws of change and challenges. I wish we were more supportive of our spiritual leaders. I wish we could give them time to set a clear vision and initiate their plan. But, we want to win and we want to win now!
We are totally impatient. We can’t stand it if things don’t change instantly in our favor. We have lost our desire to build, rebuild, and set new standards of excellence…
We need new leaders, leaders with vision and courage. And we need the vision and courage to let them lead, even if we don’t win right away…
